The Root Shirt was developed to comfortably endure the hot summer days.
Made from hand-spun and hand-woven cotton fabric from India, it’s soft, breathable, and gently conforms to the skin. Designed to keep you comfortable and cool, it’s the perfect piece to handle the humid Japanese summer with ease.
Despite being made from natural materials, it weighs just 100g in size M. Whether for daily wear, hiking, or trips, it offers such lightness that you’ll almost forget you're wearing it.

Made with India's traditional hand-spun and hand-woven fabric, Khadi.
Khadi, made by artisans through hand-spinning and hand-weaving in India.
The history of Khadi is ancient, with references found in texts dating back over 3,000 years, making it a traditional Indian craft.
Unlike machine-spun yarn, hand-spun threads are uneven, creating natural "variations" that give the cotton fabric remarkable moisture absorption and quick-drying properties, unlike anything you'd expect from cotton.

A unique softness and quick-drying capability.
The hand-spun yarn, so soft that it can't be woven by machine, feels like gauze, and with each wash, it molds to the skin, offering a truly comfortable fit.
Compared to typical cotton materials, it’s incredibly lightweight, drying quickly even after sweating, and its breathability helps cool the body.
Once worn, you'll experience its remarkable softness and excellent airflow.

A lightweight, thin, and breezy pullover style.
Tucks are added below the placket, creating a natural flare toward the hem, resulting in a unique, draped silhouette.
To protect the skin from the sun, the sleeves are slightly longer. The cuffs are designed to be wide, offering a breezy, light feel that allows the wind to flow through.
It captures a fresh breeze, preventing heat buildup, keeping you cool even during the hottest days.

Launched in MLGs first season, the Root Aloha was born out of the desire to make Japan’s humid summers more comfortable while embracing the natural qualities of cotton.
In the search for materials that would offer more comfort, more coolness, and a sense of wind, the thought of Khadi came to mind—a traditional fabric likely born in India, near the equator.
During an India trip, I happened to come across a shirt that, upon picking it up, surprised me with its incredible lightness.
With its textured surface, it allowed for a comfortable experience even in the intense heat, and I was amazed by its strange ability to feel warm when worn over a layer, despite the heat.
The sewing and details were crafted to ensure no added thickness, bringing out the fabric's natural lightness to its fullest. It’s a new sensation, walking while embracing the wind, carrying fresh air with you.
The Root Shirts are an experimental piece born from the continued exploration of natural materials.
