Instead of promising perfectly functional gear, we've left an element of "experimentation" for the user — something feels just slightly incomplete, yet it's clearly gear designed for a specific purpose.

Staying true to the early days of the UL style, the D.D Jacket is a rain jacket sewn from cutting-edge lightweight 3-layer fabric.

The oversized silhouette is not merely a design choice. It is a rational structure — drawing generous amounts of air inside the shell to soften the temperature difference with the outside world.

To keep out the rain. To reduce moisture buildup and the chill that follows. And to leave room for the wearer to find their own way of using it, adapting to whatever the environment demands.

The D.D Jacket is a piece where UL philosophy and modern material technology meet.

An oversized design that puts function first.

A relaxed, oversized box silhouette draws generous amounts of air inside the shell, softening the temperature difference with the outside world.Tighten the hem drawcord to retain that air — warmth mode. Loosen it to let air escape — ventilation mode.

On the right side, a stopper allows for fine adjustment. On the left, there is no stopper — the cord is tied instead, allowing for broader, more intuitive adjustment.

Stripping away the unnecessary, while balancing rain protection with the wearability of a travel outer.

Details stripped down to pure simplicity.

Minimal functionality designed to handle even the most technical environments — strong winds, snowy mountains.

Standard coil zippers are used throughout — not waterproof — chosen for their lightness, ease of use, and ease of maintenance.
A flap at the front reduces wind and rain entry, with a placket below the zipper for added protection.

The side pockets accommodate packable storage.
The generous sizing means rain skirts or rain pants can be packed inside together.

For the 26SS season, the sleeve length has been extended by 2cm, with the cuff width reduced accordingly — for a sharper, cleaner fit.

A lightweight 3-layer fabric at 57g/m².

For the 26SS season, the fabric has been significantly updated.

Maintaining the specifications of a 3-layer construction, we've moved to a 10-denier nylon with density and body.
Waterproof rating: 20,000mm. Breathability: 40,000g/m². A lightweight 3-layer fabric.

The added body of the fabric makes it easier to preserve the generous silhouette during wear, and allows the rain jacket's functional character to come through more clearly.
Water beads and sheds from the surface more readily, and the hood holds its three-dimensional shape with greater ease.Waterproofness, breathability, durability, and lightness — a material that balances all four. The one we trust right now.

Its excellent breathability makes it equally capable as a travel outer, not just as rain gear.

The use of stretch nylon in the outer fabric reduces the rustling noise typical of shell jackets, contributing to a supple, comfortable wearing experience.

In October 2010, just three months after the establishment of Moonlight Gear, I had the privilege of traversing the Okuchichibu main ridge over four days and three nights with Glen Van Peski —founder of Gossamer Gear and one of the legends who has long led the modern UL scene.

The weather was harsh. Cold rain continued throughout the tour, except for the first day.

Everyone on the tour was wearing a proper rain jacket — but Glen's shell was clearly different.

Something close to a disposable rain poncho from a convenience store, made from a delicate, flimsy nonwoven fabric.

Over hours of rain, the temperature difference between body heat inside the shell and the outside air caused moisture to gradually build. As breathability declined, heat became trapped — and at rest,

that warmth quickly turned to cold. This is something true of nearly every high-performance shell on the market. What shocked me was that Glen was almost completely dry.

    The secret? Air layers.

The air trapped inside his oversized rain shell softened the temperature difference with the outside world — preventing both moisture buildup and the chill that follows.

Inspired by that striking experience of over a decade ago, the D.D Jacket was born.

After countless prototypes and field tests, it took shape as the first product from Moonlightgear®.

Named with respect for the gear that inspired it — the D.D.
