Natural materials, yet quick-drying — the Two Faced Hat brings together the qualities of linen and washi in full.
True to its name, the brim is a different length front and back, letting you adapt to the sun as conditions shift.
Beyond the performance of linen, the natural stiffness of washi holds the silhouette cleanly in place.
Dense in construction, yet it creates a subtle space between head and hat — a piece that earns its place across a wide range of seasons.
A linen-washi fabric with excellent strength and a cool, comfortable fit.
A high-density weather fabric, woven with linen in the warp and washi yarn — made from Manila hemp — in the weft.
The strength and quick-drying of linen, combined with the natural stiffness of washi yarn, produces a fabric with a firm, structured character.
Dense fabrics can tend toward stuffiness, but the moisture-absorbing properties unique to washi yarn keep the wearing experience cool and comfortable.
A washing finish applied at the fabric stage encourages character to develop early, letting you enjoy the way the texture evolves with use.
Different brim lengths front and back.
The shorter front brim takes its dimensions from a military sailor hat — keeping the field of vision wide while casting just enough shade on the neck.
The longer back brim references a classic bucket hat. On bright days, wearing it back-to-front brings the longer brim forward, functioning as sun protection around the face.
The split front-and-back brim design also means the back brim can be flipped up when cycling — reducing interference with the neck and backpack straps.
The fabric holds its shape firmly, so the brim stays up once folded — easy to adapt to whatever the situation calls for.
Size adjustment that shapes the fit.
Many hats offer no size adjustment — but here, velcro on the inner sweatband allows for a customizable fit.
The inner lining uses polyester mesh.
Quick-drying even after heavy sweating, and soft against the skin.
All of it contributes to comfort over long hours of wear.

COLUMN
This linen-washi fabric was originally found for the UNfake LP Pants.
A high-density weather fabric — linen in the warp, washi yarn made from Manila hemp in the weft.
Over one summer, a sample pair of the pants was worn in constantly.Durable, quick-drying, with a real weight to the fabric — and yet it didn't cling to the skin.
Even when sweating, even when the air was humid, the fabric seemed to hold a slight distance from the body.
That quality made it far cooler to wear than expected, for far longer than expected.
In the middle of that, it occurred to me: this fabric's stiffness might work well for a hat too.
But something felt slightly off about making it into a cap. Caps conform to the shape of the head — which closes the gap between fabric and skin, and leaves less room for the moisture-absorbing and skin-separating qualities of the washi yarn to do their work.
A hat, on the other hand — which members of the team had already been asking for — seemed like a better match for the material.
A little space around the head. Shade from the sun, with airflow to prevent stuffiness. The stiffness of the fabric becomes a functional quality — helping the brim hold its shape.
That realization is where the Two Faced Hat began.
