Linen brings strength and breathability. Washi — traditional Japanese paper fiber — is woven through it, adding a dry touch and quick-drying performance that the fabric alone couldn't offer.

Dense in construction, yet the natural stiffness of washi creates a subtle space between skin and cloth, keeping things cool and fresh. Choose the right conditions, and these pants are equally at home in the field.

A high-density weather fabric, woven with linen in the warp and washi yarn — made from Manila hemp — in the weft.

The strength and quick-drying of linen, combined with the natural stiffness of washi yarn, produces a fabric with a firm, structured character.

Dense fabrics can tend toward stuffiness, but the moisture-absorbing properties unique to washi yarn keep the wearing experience cool and dry.

A washing finish applied at the fabric stage encourages the development of character from early on,

The hem can be cinched with an elastic spindle, making the pants suitable for more active scenes such as bike rides.

    Some of the activities we enjoy are close to everyday life.

    Skateboarding, climbing, cycling — Play that doesn't require much special preparation, that begins as a natural extension of the day —just moving the body, stepping a little further outside.

    For a fabric that could be worn comfortably in daily life while holding up to that kind of play, we chose a combination of washi yarn and linen.

    The strength, breathability, and quick-drying of linen. The stiffness, dry touch, and moisture absorption of washi yarn.

    To make the most of each quality, we chose a method called kōshoku — a mixed weave that uses different yarns in the warp and weft.

    There are several ways to blend materials.

    Blended spinning — mixing at the raw fiber stage. Twisted yarn — twisting different yarns together.

    And mixed weave — using different yarns in the warp and weft.

    The closer to the raw material stage the blending happens, the more the individual characteristics of each fiber soften and merge.

    The closer to the finished fabric, the more distinctly each material retains its own character.

    The mixed weave fabric we chose here is one where the qualities of linen and washi yarn each come through with relative clarity.

    They hold up in the field too.

    In wet, sweaty, humid conditions, the fabric stays less likely to cling — keeping that dry feeling.

    On brush and rock, the wear and scuffing gradually settles into character rather than damage.
